It’s here! Our e-mountain bike is ready to ride

One of the best ways is UP! Our super lightweight e-mountain bike, the woom UP, has just landed, ready to take your child's ride to the next electrifying level with equal pleasure on the ups and the downs!

All thriller, no filler: giving off a mystic air with a cool, metallic blue finish, the stylish woom UP makes a great impression on all sorts of terrain – happily spending all day in the open air! Once your child has started their ride, they won’t ever want to plant a foot on terra firma again!

Naturally, you’ll be wondering what makes a child-friendly e-mountain bike, and what goes into its complex drive system. Let’s take a closer look at the latest bike to join our ranks…

The drive system

The woom UP is equipped with the innovative drive system from the Munich-based company Fazua. Why?

  • The motor and battery combined have a total weight of only 3.3 kg. This allows us to keep the overall weight down to a minimum and engineer a bike that gives your child exceptional handling and confidence-inspiring characteristics.

  • Children’s power output while pedaling is lower than adults, which means a standard motor could be overpowering. Here’s where the high-quality, smooth Fazua motor shows its worth – impeccably engineered, it delivers even power on climbs, into headwinds, and while pushing to start the ride without surges or inconsistencies. Your child therefore experiences a natural ride sensation, much the same as a conventional, non-motorised bike.

  • For safety reasons, the pedal-assist switches off above 20 km/h. To ride any quicker than this, the bike relies on human power alone – strong leg muscles help here!

  • The motor and battery unit is easily removed from the frame with a few hand movements. Once removed, the woom UP can be ridden like a ‘normal’ mountain bike. You can charge the battery with ease at charging stations. The knobbly-tired woom UP's battery has an average range of approximately 50 – 80 km with 1,500 metres of climbing. Note: this figure fluctuates depending on a number of factors: your child’s weight, choice of pedal-assist mode, and route profile.

  • Oversized downtubes are a thing of the past! Kids care about the appearance of their bike. Style matters. The compact, combined motor and battery unit is subtly integrated into the downtube, without impacting on the UP’s sleek and sophisticated frame profile. Of course, the bike would not be complete without the distinctive woom branding on the down tube.

  • Up the fun factor even more with the free Fazua Rider app, which gives your child the flexibility to fine-tune the modes, monitor the motor’s data (power output, remaining range) and record all the stats during their ride, including distance, speed and altitude.

How does the torque transfer to the tarmac?

The 250 watt motor is switched on with the touch of a button on the top tube. It’s powered by a 250 Wh battery, and only provides pedal-assist when your child is pedaling.

The motor provides three modes of assistance, with stylish LEDs on the top tube that display the current mode: off (white), low (yellow), medium (green) and high (red). It is intuitive and easy to operate.

The battery life is also displayed through LEDs on the top tube –the more that are illuminated, the more battery life remaining. Given such a clear display, your child will always be able to check their current assistance mode and state of the battery.

Child-specific components and build – developing the woom UP from the ground up:

Sharing many of the same valued MTB genes as the woom OFF and the woom OFF AIR, the build of the woom UP also centers around suitability for your child, which informed our decisions on geometry, components and overall build. Each individual part has been developed and selected because of its ergonomics, anatomical appropriateness and off-road capabilities.

  • Weight is the key consideration. Our ambition was to create a bike that’s as light as possible so that it handles impeccably and your child can maneuver it safely and confidently. A heavy bike would simply be hard work and no fun. The woom UP 5 weighs in at a lean 15.8 kg, while the woom UP 6 is an equally as athletic 16.6 kg.

  • With a low centre of gravity, long wheelbase and slack head angle, the frame geometry provides stability and agility.

  • The lightweight air suspension fork with 80 mm travel (woom UP 5) and 90 mm travel (woom UP 6) has the ability to alter the air pressure depending on your child’s weight and the day’s terrain. Sensitive to bumps, it dampens the trail so your child fatigues less over big lumps and keeps the wheel more in contact with the ground for added stability, safety and comfort. You can also lock-out the fork for more efficient climbing.

  • Thanks to the flip-flop stem, the height of the handlebars can be changed to suit your child.

  • The super wide, knobbly tires are lightweight and versatile: providing optimal grip and exemplary rolling resistance, these give your child a great mix of control and speed.

  • Designed with a large surface area and small metal pins, your child gets the ultimate grip on the robust flat pedals. In tricky situations, flat pedals are significantly safer for children than clipless ones as they are able to put their feet down more rapidly.

  • The bars are also tailored for your child:

    • The handlebar grips have child-friendly dimensions with a narrow diameter. Made of silicon, they are comfortable and provide consistent grip even in the rain.

    • The brake levers are adjustable so you can set them at the ideal reach for your child’s hands. As kids with e-bikes are likely to ride further, faster and for longer, powerful disc brakes are vital to bring your child safely to a stop with minimal effort required.

    • The trigger shifter is easy to operate and the 11-speed SRAM NX rear derailleur provides precise, efficient and satisfying shifting through its gears.

For kids between seven and 14 years old, it’s time for e-adventures to begin! Depending on your child’s height, choose between the woom UP 5 and the woom UP 6 with either 24" or 26" wheels.

Start heading UP from here to enjoy the added tailwind and fresh, fatigue-free legs! Where will your first e-powered adventure take you?
